Moreish Idols are another Speedy Underground band – no surprise there. We loved the horns in this track, “Hangar,” which melds punk, jazz, krautrock and funk into a glorious swirl of sound. Singer Jude Lilley sneers at the cultural landscape and a world of pop culture that does nothing for him. We feel you buddy.
“Tell Me Your Politik” by Nakhane feat Moonchild Sanelly & Nile Rodgers
This track has a ferocious rap from South African performer Moonchild Sanelly AND features Nile Rodgers on guitar, so what’s there not to like??
The song is Nakhane’s densely pulverising demand for prospective lovers to be ideologically aligned. “I wanted it to sound like a pack of wolves barking, saying ‘unless you get your politics right I’m not gonna f**k you.”
“So Sick of Me” is from Haich Ber Na, aka Harrison Bernard, a London based electronic musician. This track is new and off his forthcoming EP.
He says the song is “about falling out of love with someone and following your true feelings, even if they may be destructive…” Fun video too – unless you hate balloons!
“This Cold House is all I have”
Talk Show, who scrapped all the musical work they’d done on their album pre pandemic, took the demos of their new material into the Hackney studio of Joe Goddard and Al Doyle of Hot Chip. It was an open-minded collaboration; the band, excited by working with electronic music legends, and wanting to be encouraged to push their sonic boundaries, were so pleased with the results. Speaking about ‘Cold House’, frontman Harrison Swann says; “I wanted to write something big but less dark and focused on those noughties bands coming out of New York. They were absolutely having it. Honestly I can’t wait to play to play this to a crowd.”
Moa Moa is a South London band signed to Speedy Wonderground. Their song “Coltan Candy” was among the demos they submitted, so when signed, they recorded the song in 13 hours. “Our mantra is to always try and create challenging music but also have a firm grounding in hooks to hold onto.”
Psykhi’s Rat Poison is hanging out in this week’s HOT SPOT!
Psykhi is from Ghana, and we played his song White Picket Fence all the way back on WHOOOSH! 56/21. Of this song, Rat Poison, which was on the same EP as White Picket Fence, he says, “It’s a horror story in a song. I wanted to paint an intense scene that is reminiscent of gothic literature; to create a sense of wonder and terror, mirrored by the chaos and harmony of the guitars.”

Brittney Denise Parks, better known by her stage name Sudan Archives, is an American violinist and singer based in Los Angeles. About “Selfish Soul” she says: “I feel like there’s an American standard of what beautiful hair is, and I wanted to show in this video that’s not what all beauty is; to showcase different hairstyles and different types of women and their hair. I was inspired by India.Arie’s “I Am Not My Hair,” one of the first songs I heard about this subject.
All we know is that’s it’s a really great track!
Duran Duran are a British new wave band formed in Birmingham in 1978 by keyboardist Nick Rhodes and bassist John Taylor. The band took their name from Roger Vadim’s 1960’s cult sci-fi classic film “Barbarella,” starring Jane Fonda. There was a character played by Milo O’Shea called Duran Duran.
We think they have a bright future ahead of them. Their song, “All of You Erol Alkan’s Extended Rework,” is in this week’s HOT SPOT!
Wunderhorse is rising British singer and songwriter Jacob Slater who says that “Butterflies is about a sexual experience I had with an older girl when I was still very young. I didn’t know what I was doing at all and it spun me out for a while.”
‘Jump off the bridge, kiss the water’ – such a great visual.

Orlando Tobias Edward Higginbottom, known professionally as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, is a British electronic music producer, DJ and singer-songwriter based in the United States. A classically trained musician, he attended the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London. His next album When the Lights Go, is due summer 2022. About the nutty name, Orlando commented to Spin that he was looking for a name that “couldn’t be cool, couldn’t be put into some kind of scene that gets hip for six months and then falls out of fashion.”

“Shit-Pop Band from London and North of France.” Ralph Of London‘s music spawned from the sub-genre infused British Pop undercurrent. Their sound is a compound of music. The group bring together conventional instruments to produce an unconventional sound. Ralph Phillips started the band in 2016 when it was just him. Now it’s a 4 piece. Their latest release, ‘Yellow Sky Highway’ is out now but “Heaven’s Guts” is what you will hear on WHOOOSH!
Mauro Samaniego is one of the most influential artists on the Ecuadorian music scene in the last decade. Mainly recognized for being the leader of Da Pawn and Crew of Bears, two precursor bands of indie rock in Ecuador. Since 2019, Samaniego begans his solo career by releasing three singles. Of LUNA he says, “ It’s a journal of mine where I’m transitioning from not being an old teenager and becoming a young adult at age 30. There is a search for sounds, trying very new things”
“Gold in my Dome” is dubbed a ‘rap tune slash club banger’ – which showcases Mother Marygold’s mystical vocals over a four-to-the-floor beat from Joy Anonymous. Mother Marygold is an artist born and raised in New Orleans and she credits the dark tones of New Orleans jazz culture for the sound that changed the landscape of underground music. For her, it was the culture that spoke, helping her cultivate a sound that was unfamiliar but relative.
Hamilton Leithauser, an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has done 4 residencies at the famed Carlyle Hotel in New York City. From 2000 to 2014, Hamilton was the lead vocalist of The Walkmen, with whom he recorded seven studio albums. He said this song, 2020’s “Here they Come,” was about a roommate who ran from his problems by buying a movie ticket in the morning and staying at the theatre all day. We dig it.
Allison Ponthier is an American indie folk singer and songwriter. Her single “Cowboy”, was named one of the “25 Best Songs by LGBTQ Artists of 2021 (So Far)” by Billboard. We love everything about this song, “Late Bloomer,” it was one of our faves of the week.

Los Angeles’ self-proclaimed premier deathrock acid punks, VR Sex is the latest by Drab Majesty’s Andrew Clinco. His acid punk alias refers to the warped, wicked underworld his songs both chronicle and condemn. This is “Victim or Vixen.”
“So Long” blew our minds. Danielle Ponder is a former public defender-turned-recording artist – yep an actual lawyer – but wait, what a VOICE!! The Rochester, NY native performed for a decade in soul band Black August before deciding she was to go full-force with music. We’re so lucky she has!
“Shock Horror you’re stuck, do you feel like you suck?”
Shelf Lives is singer Sabrina and guitarist/producer Jonny, based in South London but hailing from Toronto and Northampton. “The song ‘Shock Horror’ is a homage to our worst nightmare of a human. An amalgamation of specific traits that are so transparent yet irresistible, in a way. Everyone has met one or has even been one at some point in their lives.”
